Dwarka Expressway linking Delhi and Gurugram is the latest addition to the list of infrastructure marvels of India. It is 27 Km long on National Highway 48. The under-construction marvel has eight elevated lanes and eight-lane service roads. The 16-lane elevated grade-separated expressway connects Dwarka in Delhi to Kherki Daula Toll Plaza, Gurgaon in Haryana. It is also considered the country’s first urban expressway. As per the media reports, it will be the widest toll plaza to be constructed.

A total of 34 toll booths have been built on this expressway, which is the highest in the country so far. Generally, the toll is charged for 15 to 20 years on expressways, but an agreement has been made to charge a toll for 25 years on Dwarka Expressway. The toll for cars, jeeps and vans is Rs 105 per side and Rs 155 for both sides. The toll rate for buses and trucks is Rs 355 per side and Rs 535 for both sides.

This 16-lane expressway either passes underground or above the ground. The toll plaza has been built on the Delhi border across Bajghera. It is the country’s first elevated expressway, which will help in reducing the traffic between Delhi and Haryana. Each side of the 16-lane expressway is of 8 lanes. The entire eight-lane road has been built on a single pillar, which is a marvel of Indian engineering. Its service lane has also been made of 8 lanes.

Another special thing about Dwarka Expressway is that there is a point where this road becomes four floors. On this expressway, about 29 kilometres long, a four-layer road is seen near Sector 82 of Gurugram. There is an underpass below a service lane, followed by a flyover and an expressway. Hence, this expressway has also been named a Multi-Utility Corridor.

As per the report of Tribune, Dwarka Expressway is set to become the first highway in the NCR to switch to a GPS-based toll collection system. NHAI has reportedly tested it on a pilot basis on the Bengaluru-Mysusu highway. After the inauguration, the GPS-based toll collection can be beneficial for commuters.
