Anand Vihar-Apsara Border Flyover To Open Next Month? What We Know

The Public Works Department (PWD) has completed 90 percent of the construction of the Apsara-Anand Vihar Border flyover. According to reports, the flyover is said to open by next month. Approval to transplant trees has yet to be received. The deadline for completion of the flyover, along with the elevated corridor, subway, and side ramps, was extended from December 2023 to April 2024. Now, the deadline is June-July. The project was launched two years ago with the aim of reducing congestion on one of the city’s busiest roads. Once the 1.4-kilometer flyover is completed, Road No 56 will become signal-free. Reports suggest, with the new flyover, people in Ramprastha Colony, Vivek Vihar, and Shrestha Vihar will no longer face traffic congestions.
Work started in 2022:
The project was planned for 2019, but its start was delayed due to the pandemic. In October 2022, CM Arvind Kejriwal and Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal laid the foundation stone. Officials said that the forest department had received a complaint that some trees had been cut illegally at the site, after which the work was halted. Even after various meetings between the PWD and forest officials for the past few months, there has been no progress. About 75 trees have been identified and selected for transplantation.
Waiting for green clearance from the forest department:
Reports say, the status of green clearance is the same as it was a few months ago. There has been no progress on that front, but the work on the flyover is getting completed. As per latest report, the flyover could be opened to the public next month. The flyover near Surya Nagar is under construction, and the main elevated portion is largely complete.
